*Note-Number of Tasks depend on the type of session.
Task 1: (10-15 minutes)
- Be the Student! Let's expereince a Nearpod lesson form a students' point of view!!!
Task 2: (10 minutes)
- Sign up for a free Nearpod account. If they have an existing account they will need to log in.
- 5 colored tabs on the left (my library, exlpre, join, create, reports) and what each of them do (they are all pretty self-explanatory).
- Features with the free version. https://www.smore.com/mvten-nearpod-in-the-classroom
- Two options 1) live session which is the only option with the free account. This is how to launch your lesson. 2) student paced is a paid feature but would allow students to do Nearpod lessons independently or at home.
- The next step is going to “Explore” at the top left of the page. Find at least 3 lessons that you could use in your classrooms in the upcoming weeks.
- Not everything is free. Filter FREE lessons if needed.
Task 3: (15 minutes)
- Participants will partner up and practice launching one of the lessons that they added to their library with their partners and briefly run through that lesson as a teacher while their partner pretends to be the student using the pin to join.
- Once this is complete have them look over their own data and practice emailing it to their partner using the email feature. This will reinforce the fact that data can be shared with multiple stake holders.
Closure Activity (5 minutes)
- Review the success criteria with participants.
- Have them discuss how Nearpod addresses the 4 guiding PLC questions.
- Have participants use the comment stream on the bottom of the Smore to state how they think they can best use Nearpod in their classrooms and also have them state one roadblock that might keep them from using Nearpod. Use those comments to follow up with your teachers and help eliminate those roadblocks if possible.
- Spotlight additional resources on bottom of the Smore for teachers to use after the session if additional help is needed.
- Participants will then take your PD survey.
- If any teachers in the session are from your school try to get a date scheduled to come co-teach a Nearpod with them.
- Try to get that scheduled before they leave so that they are more invested in Nearpod and will more likely leave and investigate more into Nearpod.
